I would
like to start my post with these two images:
Disturbing,
ha? Well, the ones who know me very well know that I really stand up not only
for Human Rights but also for WOMEN´S RIGHTS. It is not that I´m a complete
feminist or the kind, but I recognize the fact that women need men in their lives.
That is something we cannot change. Anyway, whenever I turn on the TV and watch
a piece of news which shows women who are being kidnapped, brutally hit, burned
and cruelly murdered I go actually really mad. But when I see the cases of
human trafficking that are part of our society nowadays and that there is
little help from the members of the government, who pretend to pay attention to
this issue “without paying attention”, well, that is something I still cannot
understand.
We live in
a puritan society in which women are not forgiven for their wrong actions and behavior.
Instead, they are constantly pointed out and punished by the whole society. And
it is this society, full of sin and transgressions, the one which perpetuates
and hides actions such as human trafficking.
Men and
women were born in equality, or that is what is still believed. But these
women, who are captured, taken out from their home and country, living in
deplorable conditions and forced to work as SEXUAL SLAVES, don´t seem to enjoy
the same rights. Why? Well, that is something that I still don´t understand.
But what I cannot stand is the fact that the whole community is the one who let
this huge issue go by as if it were nothing. I can expect that behavior from
the Government because, like it or not, most of the members belonging to it are
immersed in human trafficking. But is it possible that common people, like you
and me, are so blind not to see what is going on around us? If I have to be
sincere, I´m really ashamed of the society which I live in. One of the most
outstanding and respectable women in our country is Susana Trimarco (her daughter
Marita Veron was captured by a human trafficking band in 2002) who is still
fighting not only to find her beloved daughter but also to stop this abominable
and atrocious crime. Thanks to her, thousands of women and young women have
been rescued and are now leaving their lives freely, as they should be.
So, it is
time for us to reflect upon our lives and honor the noun that has been given in
order to characterize our existence. LET´S BE MORE HUMANE AND START LOOKING
AROUND US.
Thank
you!!!
